We connect the future, through the present, with the past. Since 1948, the North Olympic History Center, formerly the Clallam County Historical Society, has been dedicated to keeping the history of the North Olympic Peninsula alive. The NOHC manages a research library, an artifact collection, and an education program.

NOHC "Cloud Project"

The North Olympic History Center has undertaken what we refer to as the "Cloud Project."

Until now, researchers have had to come to the NOHC Research Library, or correspond to have questions on local history answered. The artifact collection was accessible only to those willing to make special arrangements. The Cloud Project will. over time, put our collection on-line. The public will be able to search various categories to find items of interest. In this way, the collection will be accessible to anyone with access to the internet.

The project will include purchase of new computer software, hardware and services. Since 2012, NOHC has used Past Perfect museum software to catelog the archival collection of approximately 13,000 records. The Cloud Project will include several phases, including cleaning up the existing database, moving to a format that is web-based, and ultimately provide on-line access to reseachers. Eventually, the on-line collection can be used to develop exhibits for a virtual museum.

An additional and equally important part of the project will be the addition of documents into the database. The entire project will be well under way within the next year, but will continue indefinitely.

As the project develops, we will be recruiting volunteers to perform most of the work. If you would like more information, contact us by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone at 360-452-2662.
